Identifying Constitutional Types
The fine-line between some Thinking and Emotional constitutions
A good example of irides that have elements of both constitutions
Gender: Male
Colour: Green
Constitution: Emotional
Social Type: Emotionally Driven
This is a great teaching slide and one I use a lot. It’s a good example of when structure comes close to the dividing line between a Thinking and Emotional type.
In this image I have marked Psoric structures as A.B.C, and Lacunae, 1-2-3 etc.
A cursory glance is not really conclusive, and so further consideration is called for. The first thing that stands out in this iris pair is the somewhat squared Expression ring. This is one possible indicator for an Emotional type, but - we have a few Psora here, and these are mostly orangey in colouration. As we tend to equate brightness (colour) and definition (hard edged) with heightened thinking activity.
The next thing we note is the structure inside the Expression ring. This is problematic, as structure inside this ring is not useful for us in determining a constitutional type. That is not to say structure here is redundant, it just cannot really help us at this stage of analysis. Most of the Lacunae here are small, compact and fairly well-defined. They are also all situated in the middle third of the iris, an Iris Zone that typically amplifies and intensifies emotional charge.
The overall density of the iris fibre is more typical of a Thinking/Analytical type, but also note how the fibre becomes more loose in the area of Outer Heart, in both eyes. This has been highlighted with a thin dotted line.

Iris Rings?
We have a faint and discoloured (yellowed) Pearl ring in both irides, at the edge of the lateral hemisphere. These rings soften the personality and add Empathy, however, here their presence is dominated by the presence of Anxiety rings, which are more visible. These two rings tend to countermand one another, but here the latter are stronger and so dominate, intensifying any Driver qualities.
Finally, the intense colour build-up upon the Expression ring qualifies as ‘The Wall’. Their presence has much to do with self-esteem issues, of being shut down or told to shut up. This type of ring is found in Thinking and Emotional types alike, but its appearance is perhaps slightly more common in the Emotional type. To confirm the interpretation of this ring, it is also useful to look in the area of Self-reliance, to see if there is any significant structure to back this up. In this case, there is not really anything significant in either Self-esteem position.
Summing up
The larger amount of Lacunae, large Expression ring, and greater amount of structure in the left iris (note more colouration in this iris) leans these irides toward an Emotional type. The presence of Psora, makes it an Emotionally Driven - in its social type. Generally, we expect emotional types to have more structure in their left iris. The fact this individual also has more colour build up here, suggests a difficulty in moving toward the Father and father’s side of the family.
This individual may have attempted to overcome this developing a higher level of Self-reliance, as there are two Psora in this iris position, see C and D. The Lacunae (9) in the area of Devotion may also have been a factor in their inability to leave the Mother and mother’s side of the family, as this position typically looks for belief and anchoring or seeing a higher purpose behind life events.
